But after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Institute fell apart along with its ambitious projects. The greenhouses were left derelict, gradually returning to nature's domain. Overgrowth of grapes and ivy wrapped the frames of the glass buildings, reminiscent of the skeletons of a former civilization.
