If you wish to make a genre photoshoot united by a particular story/plot, you can do it both through one photo, and a photo series. However, this has to be decided on prior to the photoshoot so that you have a clear idea what to do and how to do it while filming.
There are stories and plots where one shot is enough to fully communicate the idea – for instance, photos called “Female artist”, “Emotions”, “Playful cat”. In this case, it doesn’t make any sense to make a photo series.
Yet, conveying the story may often require a series of works, whereby one photo continues the previous one or completes the story making its plot more interesting. The examples of such photo series are “A Sportswoman”, “A female tire technician”, “Amphora and Goddess”. In this case, the photo series is clearer and more interesting for the audience. It looks like a short movie.
As I analyzed audience’s activity on my Instagram account, I noticed that the audience is more interested in photo series than in separate photos. The audience is excited to discuss them, leave commentaries and share.
