In Ireland, there is a legend of Stingy Jack. This man managed to deceive the Devil, and the Almighty Powers did everything to keep Stingy Jack out of the world. So, he stayed on the ground. The Irish linked this myth to All Saints’ Day. Thus, the tradition of carving a face on a pumpkin to repel evil spirits appeared. Therefore, the carved pumpkin is often called «Jack-o'-lantern».
